Halloo dreams chasers! Today I want us to do a lesson on prayer. Praying has not always been a fun or enjoyable activity for me. Not that I don’t prayer, I do but not until recently, praying seemed like a herculean task for me. Prayer meetings and prayer times, were times I dreaded the most. Why? Because of so many reasons:
- I didn’t know how to pray effectively.
- I couldn’t pray for too long.
- I couldn’t pray in tongues.
- I didn’t know the right words to use or have the eloquence to impress and convince God.
- I couldn’t perform or do the gymnastics others did as they prayed.
- And so many other reasons.
For as long as I can remember, my idea, knowledge and perception about prayer was only from how I saw others do it. And am pretty sure many other Christians find themselves in these web too?
But then, just like Jesus’ disciples, I learnt how to pray effectively. Oh! Yes. (We must learn to pray effectively). Ha! This knowledge changed my whole perception about prayer and also helped empower and transformed my life. I now enjoy my prayer times more than ever.
Like me, you too can learn how to pray more effectively and enjoy your prayer times as well. Whether in private or corporately, your prayer times can be refreshing and enjoyable.
FIVE LESSONS ON PRAYER:
PRAYER IS A RELATIONSHIP
As a believer, don’t see prayer as a religious activity to perform but rather a relationship with your Heavenly Father. It means, you talk to God anytime, anywhere and about everything on your heart. How? Just like the way you talk to your earthly parents. No protocols or formations needed. You don’t have pray to please God (He is already pleased with you) or so He will love you more or bless you more. No! Whether you pray or not, God will still love you the same, and will still bless you regardless. Pray to God because He is your Heavenly Father and He loves you just as you are. That is what God desires most: to fellowship and commune with you.
GOD INITIATES PRAYER, GIVES YOU THE POWER TO PRAY, HELPS YOU TO PRAY AND PRAYS FOR YOU (Romans 8:26. Philippians 3:8, 2:14)
I know. This is too good and wonderful to be true. But yeah, that’s the truth. Romans 8:26 tells us so. God will give you the desire to prayer, He will give you the power to pray, help you to pray and even pray for you according to His will. In fact why don’t you say that as a prayer right now?
Father in heaven, as You have promised in Your Word: please give me the desire to commune and fellowship with You through prayer. And teach me to pray. Amen
PRAY ACCORDING TO HIS WILL (Jn. 5:14-15)
God will answer your prayers base on only one condition. If you pray according to His will. Yeah, probably that’s why some prayers of yours might not have been answered. You might be asking, what then is the will of God, God’s will is revealed in His written word. That is the bible. That is why you need to read your bible more to pray more effectively. Note that there is no verse in the bible that says God will answer your prayers if you pray for long hours, or at certain times or in certain postures. Just pray the word back to God. He is bound by it.
GOD ALWAYS ANSWERS OUR PRAYERS (Jer. 33:3, I Jn. 5:14-15, Jn. 14:8)
Now this is one of the most powerful truths that I love. When you pray according to His will, God answers: Yes, No, and wait. It might not be the answer you want, but it is still an answer.
HE PROMISES TO GIVE US NEW REVELATIONS AND INSIGHTS (Jer. 33:3)
When you pray to God, He not only promises to answer you but also tell you of new things you don’t know about and give you new revelations. Now, is that not wonderful? So, the next time you are praying, remind Him about that.
Which one excited you the most? I do hope this blesses you, and your prayer time is more refreshing and enjoyable. Live your dreams and inspire the world.
